The East Bernard Baseball team opened up postseason play
against Kountze this weekend. The Brahmas won the first 2 games of the series
to sweep Kountze and advance to the second round of playoffs.
In game one, East Bernard took the lead in the first inning
and never looked back, winning by a final of 8-0. Leading the charge at the
plate was Jake Zurek with 3 hits, 2 RBI’s, and a run, Travis Hlavinka with 2
hits, 3 RBI’s, and a run, Ed Garza with 2 hits, an RBI, and 2 runs, JJ Talas
with a hit and 2 RBI’s, Blake Whitley with a hit and 2 runs, and Allen Anderson
with a hit and a run. Earning the win on the mound was Cody Lehmann allowing
just 5 hits over 6 innings.
Game 2 featured a back and forth affair with the Brahmas
scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 10th inning to sweep the series.
The Brahmas were down 4-1 going into the bottom of the 6th before
battling back to force extra innings. Leading the charge at the plate was Allen
Anderson with 2 hits, 2 RBI’s, and 2 runs, Jared Rejsek with 2 hits, Jake Zurek
with 2 hits, an RBI, and a run, Lane Kolafa with a hit and a run, Travis
Hlavinka with a hit, an RBI, and a run. Austin Henry, JJ Talas, and Blake
Whitley each added a hit a piece.
The Brahmas are now 17-6 overall and will face off against
Buffalo in round 2 of the playoffs next this week. Details are as follows:
