BRAHMARETTES TEAM UP AGAINST CANCER

The Brahmarettes will be 'Teaming Up Against Cancer' once again this season. This year the season will be dedicated to playing for the fight against Neuroblastoma in memory of Jonathan David Kramr who lost his battle with it at a young age. Jonathan was the brother of varsity player Megan Kramr. Show your support not only for our team, but for our team's fight against Neuroblastoma by ordering your team shirt today. You may contact Coach Ronnie Schmidt or April Schmidt (979.533.4451) with your name and size(s) by the end of the day Monday, December 2nd.  Cost will be determined after we know the number we will order, but should be in the price range that has been the standard.

Another HUGE way to support our fight is by not only attending our games, but especially in attending the BRAHMARETTE'S vs NEUROBLASTOMA game night. Explore UT

Come to Explore UT

Explore UT is often called “an academic Disneyland." Why? It offers more than 400 learning activities for explorers of all ages. It’s the perfect way to motivate students to go to college, provide enrichment for Gifted and Talented students, and show how learning can be fun.

What: Explore UT, annual campus-wide open house
Where: The University of Texas at Austin
When: Saturday, March 1, 2014, from 11 am to 5:30 pm.
Who’s invited: Everyone, especially k-12 students, their teachers and parents
Admission: Free. (Lunch on your own)
Registration: Only if you bring a bus (see below)
Website: The Explore UT website, www.utexas.edu/events/exploreut, will be updated by mid-December.

More than 400 learning activities
HIGH SCHOOL: Attend sessions on college admission and paying for college. Tour residence halls, labs and libraries. Talk to University students about what college is really like. Watch a scene from Shakespeare, and learn about the latest advances in clean energy, nanotechnology, and biomedicine. Perfect for STEM students.
MIDDLE SCHOOL: Learn about careers in everything from aerospace engineering and computer science, to architecture and broadcasting. Tour the Tower, examine microbes through a microscope, learn how medicines are mixed in the pharmacy lab, and assemble a model rocket. Inspiring for AVID, GearUp, CIS students and first-generation-to-college students.
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Take part in a trial of Gold E. Locks, pedal a bicycle-driven generator to power a TV, eat ice cream made with liquid nitrogen, get your face painted, see real dinosaur skeletons, and have your picture made with BEVO.

Look for lots of NEW learning activities all over campus, plus annual favorites like these:
·         watch robots in action,
·         learn how to extract DNA from a banana,
·         watch a pig’s lungs fill with air,
·         sample some of Russia’s most traditional foods,
·         deliver the TV news in a real TV studio,
·         march with the Longhorn Band.

Never been to Explore UT?
Get an overview of Explore UT by reviewing last year’s printed program. This 36-page program lists the entire schedule of 400 learning activities and contains a campus map. Many of the most popular activities are repeated from year to year. To receive last year’s program, email your US Postal Service address toblangham@austin.utexas.edu.

This year’s program won’t be printed until a week or so before the event, but you will be able to download a PDF of the entire 2014 program about mid-February when it’s posted on the Explore UT website.

Plan a field trip
Schools arrange their own transportation to Explore UT. If you bring students in a bus, register it online beginning the first week of January to help the University plan enough space for bus parking. You can also buy tickets online for lunch in a University dining hall, but of course you can bring your own lunch and picnic on campus.

Families may bring students on their own and have a fun family outing. There’s NO REGISTRATION for cars or for individuals to participate in activities. Just park in a campus garage, and take part in the activities of your choice.

Want to spread the word?
Request PDF files of the Explore UT handout and poster that you can print out and distribute, forward to colleagues and parents, and post on your website.

Brahmarettes end Volleyball Season

The East Bernard Brahmarettes matched up with the Schulenburg Shorthorns last night at the Regional Quarterfinals in Columbus.  The girls battled the entire night in an intense match, but fell just a little short losing in 4 (25-22, 17-25, 23-25, 22-25).  The girls prepared and practice hard.  Schulenburg is a good team.  We knew it would be a battle and I couldn’t be more proud of the fight my team had until the very end.  We have 8 seniors on this team, and we will greatly miss each and every one of them.  We are also very grateful for everything they have given the program.  They have truly been leaders and raised the bar for all the Brahmarettes to follow.

A message from the Superintendent

I just wanted to say what a wonderful veterans day program we had today.  What an awesome feeling it was to sit among "heros."

You know, education is not always reading and arithmetic, but it is just as important to teach a child what patriotism stands for and how important it is to be patriotic.  A simple Thank You to our veterans means that what they did for us does not go unnoticed.  The band playing "America the Beautiful" and the "Battle Hymn of the Republic" brought complete silence and focus on why we were here today.  I am proud that our children are being taught the importance of "veterans day."  Watching the entire student body stand up and sing the national anthem was incredible.

ASHLEY DUSEK HONORED

Ashley Dusek will be officially signing with Kentucky to play volleyball on Wednesday, November 13th at 1:25 pm in the old high school gym.

Please come out and support her and her family on this great acccomplishment.

ALL STATE JAZZ BAND MEMBER

Congratulations to our All State Jazz Band Member Andrew Kubena!

He will get to rehearse and perform with a group of the top jazz kids at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in San Antonio from February 12th-15th.

Way to go Andrew. They only took one Bass Trombone. He was the top player.

CROSS COUNTRY STATE MEET

The boys and girls Cross Country teams competed in the State Cross Country Meet in RoundRock this past Saturday.  The 2 mile and 5K courses were changed due to all the rain that fell in the area, and they were somewhat more challenging than last year's courses.

The Varsity Girls competed first. Liz Guerra claimed the 15th spot coming in first for East Bernard with a time of 12:27.  She was followed by Carson Swoboda who finished with a time of 13:04; Cassisy Mica with a time of 13:09; AJ Navarro 13:49; Katelyn Walters 13:57; Lexi Atkinson 14:00; and Kasey Kretzschmar 14:01. The girls ended the season finishing 7th at the State Meet. Congratulations to all the girls who competed as your District and Region 4 Champions.

Luling won their 4th State Championship in a row  with 66 points.  Boys Ranch came in 2nd with 111 points. Eustace took the third place medal with a 135 points and East Bernard came in 4th at the State Meet, just missing a podium finish, with 138 points.

Individually, all the boys raced their personal bests on the State Course.  Wyatt Kieler earned the Runner-up spot and Silver medal racing to the 12th fastest time in the 2A division coming in with a time of 16:10.   Evan McQuirk from Van Alstyne was the Gold Medalist racing to a 16:03 finish on the 5K course. The 5K course was definitely more challenging than last years course, so Wyatt's time was really exceptional. Daniel Garza was the next East Bernard runner in with a time of 17:23; Caleb Moseley 17:46; Brian Barta 18:11; Jacob Muniz 18:24;  John Failla 18:51; and Blaine Whitley 19:47.  Congratulations to all the boys who competed as your District and Region 4 Champions.

Both teams did an awesome job representing East Bernard and finished a successful season at the State Meet. Each year, our goal is to get a chance to compete at the State Meet.  Wyatt Kieler, Daniel Garza, Cassidy Mica and Katelyn Walters have been State Qualifiers 4 years in a row.  All 4 have been members of State Medalist teams and Wyatt Kieler has earned 2 Individual medals.

Congratulations to ALL our East Bernard Cross Country runners.

BRAHMARETTES AREA CHAMPS!

Congratulations to the Brahmarette volleyball team for being Area Champs for the 3rd year in a row.  The girls beat Blanco last night 25-19, 28-26, 19-25, 25-20.  The girls battled the entire match.  They knew discipline would be key to winning.  The defense had to make some adjustments and when they did, they gave us the opportunity to put the ball away.  Blanco put up a good fight.  They worked us from all angles of the court, but the Brahmarettes answered back earning the title of Area Champs.

BRAHMARETTES WIN AT BI-DISTRICT!

The East Bernard Brahmarettes won there Bi-District match up last night against Anahuac 25-9, 25-16, 25-16.  The girls went in knowing they had a job to do.  The back line continues to become solid which is allowing Sloan, the setter, to move the ball around.  This in turn is giving our attackers better opportunity.  They realize that everyone’s success is dependent on everyone else’s actions.  That’s what makes them a team.

Kill leader – Rebecca Rabius 14, Kori Slanina 8, Ashley Dusek 6
Assists – Sloan Carr 26
Aces – Aliska Schimdt and Slanina with 3 each, Angelica Lopez and Dusek 1
Digs – Dusek 14,  Melissa Fajkus 7, Amanda Boettecher 6
Blocks – Dusek, Slanina, and Rabius each with a solo

The area will round will be played between Thursday and Saturday against the winner of Blanco and Stockdale.

EB GO GREEN CLUB RECYCLING DRIVE

Saturday November 16, we will be having our technology recycling drive.

It will be that morning from 8:00 - 12:00 at the new gym rain or shine.  Bring old computers and other electronics for safe, secure, ecological recycling.

Prices are generally $5 for computers, printers, other small electronics, $10 for CRT monitors and $20 for old non-flat screen tvs. Tell your friends!

Our recycler is Technocycle in Houston, they are proud of the fact that they never put anything in landfills and don't send anything overseas. They either recycle parts or rebuild the devices and sell them. They have an amazing operation. All hard drives are removed from the computers and run through a hard drive shredder that reduces them to scrap metal. All your data is safely destroyed at their site.
Thanks, and happy recycling!

BRAHMARETTES IN PLAYOFFS

The Brahmarette Varsity Volleyball team played LaGrange Friday night.  The team had a very slow start losing the first game 9-25.  Despite picking up the pace as the game continued, we fell 19-25, 22-25.   This is a different game then what we have been playing and so it was beneficial to prepare us for playoffs.

Kill leaders – Ashley Dusek 8, Rebecca Rabius 6, Miranda Lehmann  4
Assists – Sloan Carr 21
Digs – Dusek 18, Kori Slanina 7
Blocks – Slanina and Angelica Lopez each with 2

The girls open the playoffs with Anahuac tonight at Morton Ranch in Katy at 7:00 pm for the Bi-District match-up.

Please come out and support the Brahmarettes tonight.
GOOD LUCK BRAHMARETTES!
