The East Bernard High School Speech and Drama team took over
20 members to the El Campo High School Invitational tournament, accompanied by
5 Academic competitors. The event was
held on January 15 and 16, and it was the first time ever that EBHS won the
Sweepstakes Award (1A-3A)! This means
that our school had the most competitors that either advanced to the finals or
placed in the most events.
The results of the group events are
as follows: 1st place Group Improv (S. Berrett, H. Carr, K.
McDonald, F. Jenkins, and R. Zahradnik), 2nd place Group Improv (M.
Ellis, J. Hlavinka, T. Hlavinka, M. Lee), 1st place Record Mime (M.
Ellis, M. Lee), 2nd place CX Debate (M. Ellis, A. Sellers), 3rd
place Record Mime (J. Hlavinka, T. Hlavinka, K. McDonald), 3rd place
Duet Acting (M. Ellis, R. Zahradnik), 4th place Reader’s Theatre (M.
Ellis, S. Berrett, R. Zahradnik), and 6th place Record Mime (S.
Berrett and F. Jenkins). Because Maren
Ellis placed in several of her acting events, she won “Best Actress” of the
Tournament!
The individual events were solidly
dominated by EB: 1st place Poster Design (Taylor Buxkemper), 2nd
place Storytelling (Keaton McDonald), 2nd place Novice Prose (Hadley
Carr), 3rd place Soapbox Speaking (Hadley Carr), 3rd
place Set Design (Ciara Reeves), 4th place Senior Poetry (Faith
Jenkins), 4th place Poster Design (Lucy Talas), and 4th

The Individual Academic Awards resulted
in 1st place Accounting (Amber Adamcik), 2nd place
accounting (Jared Rejsek), 2nd place Science (Meg Lee), 3rd
place Science (Josh Mica), and 5th place Feature Writing (Claire
Coker). Meg Lee also won the Tops in

All of the hard work and
accomplishments at these Invitational tournaments is helping to prepare the way
to our UIL District competition on April 1st.
