The East Bernard Boys and Girls CC Teams competed in the State CC Meet in RoundRock this past Saturday. In the Boys race, East Bernard finished 16th overall in the State. The boys raced close together with the top 5 runners for East Bernard finishing within 26 seconds of each other. Several of the runners had their best time of the season. Individually, Blaine Whitley was the first EB runner to cross the finish line in 18:20, followed by Reagan Whitley in 18:25, JJ Talas in 18:35, Bo Badger in 18:46, Jacob Wondrash in 18:47, Isaac Ortiz in 19:19, and David Martinez in 19:30. Overall, this group of young men finished as the District Champions, Regional Bronze Medalist Team, and one of the top 16 teams across the state.
In the girls race, the girls toughest competition was the team from Eustace who finished last year in 3rd place and the state champions in 2014. The top 5 runners from East Bernard finished within 15 seconds of each other. Liz Guerra finished 15th overall to earn All State honors with a time of 12:07. She was followed by Jillian Hlavinka in 21st with a time of 12:22.13, with Brooke Petrenella right on her heels in 22nd with a time of 12:22.23. Kensi Muzik followed in 24th place with a time of 12:22.85, and Caitly Fuechec was 25th with a time of 12:23.29. Gracelyn Martinez finished in 13:04 and AJ Navarro finished in 13:09 to complete the team. Overall, East Bernard earned 58 points to finish as the 2016 3A STATE CHAMPIONS. Eustace finished 2nd overall with 72 points., Franklin placed 3rd with 154 points, Clyde was 4th with 182 points, and Holliday was 5th with 189 points. There were 149 girls competing in the race and East Bernard had 5 in the top 25 spots! The girls competed hard and did what they needed to do to finish as your State Champions! Congratulations to ALL the runners.Both teams represented East Bernard well and I am so proud of all the runners and how they performed all season.
