IMPORTANT: Instruction Required for April 3rd-May 3rd

Good evening EBISD parents and students,

Bear with me as there is a lot of important information in this communication. First, let me thank each of you for working with your child this past week. We are all in a very unfamiliar place while trying to do our absolute best for our kids.

Initially, the first two weeks of closure focused on keeping students engaged and transitioning to in-home instruction.  Now, with the lengthened school closure, our focus and professional responsibility are to continue with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) that would have been covered in our classrooms. With that focus comes the same academic expectation in student performance such as completing assignments on time and with integrity.

INSTRUCTION
Elementary students will continue to receive their assignments through paper packets (drop off and pick up details below). Junior high and high school students will receive all of their instruction and assignments online. If you do not have access to the internet, you may contact the campus principal for other instructional options. Rest assured ALL students will have access to course instruction and materials.

EBHS: Jay Janczak, jay.janczak@ebisd.org or 979-335-7519 ext 111

GRADING
The elementary and junior high campuses will be moving to a "pass/fail" grading system for each assignment for the remainder of the year. Teachers will provide regular feedback to parents and/or students regarding academic performance on assignments.

The high school will continue to use numerical grades as a basis to award course credit. Specifics will be provided on the EBHS website and from classroom teachers. Information on class rank and GPA will be forthcoming. It is imperative that high school students understand they are required to participate and complete assignments in order to obtain appropriate credits towards graduation.

TURNING IN WORK
Grades 5-12 will turn in work online through their classroom platforms. Elementary will have drop off dates (listed below) with more details to come on procedures for a safe drop off. Per Governor Abbott’s order of March 31, 2020, persons in Texas may leave their homes to "obtain essential services." Distance learning is an essential service, under Governor Abbott's order. Parents of school district students may, therefore, in compliance with Governor Abbott's order, leave their homes to drop off homework, to pick up distance learning packets, and/or meals from public school facilities.

ENROLL/WITHDRAW
Any student wishing to enroll in or withdraw from EBISD should contact registrar, Kimberly Sulak at kimberly.sulak@ebisd.org or 979-335-7519 ext 155.
