At the December school board meeting, in response to House Bill 2610 (HB 2610), the Board of Trustees approved the recommended revised 2015-2016 School Calendar available on the EBISD website, www.ebisd.org under the Home Page tab.
HB 2610 amends Texas Education Code (TEC) §25.081 by striking language requiring 180 days of instruction to 75,600 minutes of instruction. The bill also allows school districts to add minutes as necessary to end the school year earlier and compensate for minutes of instruction lost due to school closures caused by disaster, flood, extreme weather conditions, fuel curtailment, or another calamity. The minutes imbedded into our current school schedules allow for EBISD to reduce our 2015-16 School Calendar by four days. Reducing our instructional days by 4 would allow the instructional year and graduation to be completed on May 27th, while also banking enough hours to offset any pending school closures.
The 15-16 school year will now end on May 27th. Balfour has already been notified of the change to graduation invitations and the venue for Pro-Grad has been secured for May 27th. Please visit the EBISD webpage for a view of the revised calendar.
