Dear Parents:
Who’s taking the PSAT? East Bernard Independent School District is
pleased to announce that our students will be taking the 2014 PSAT/NMSQT test
on October 15, 2014. The school will be paying the expense of
this test for the juniors, so all juniors will be taking the test. Other students may take this upon a
first-come/first-serve paid basis for $14.
I believe that I have about 20 extra spaces, but I can order more prior
to September 20 if necessary.
What’s the PSAT useful for? The
PSAT/NMSQT measures critical thinking skills that are important for success in
college, including critical reading, math problem-solving, and writing
skills. This test enables your child to
get feedback about critical academic skills, seek information from colleges,
enter scholarship competitions, prepare for the SAT Reasoning Test, and
initiate the college-planning process.
Furthermore, this test gives your student one more testing experience
prior to the SAT. Our PSAT test takers will
be given a Student Guide for the PSAT/NMSQT.
Please see that he/she utilizes this guide to receive further
information regarding the test as well as a sample test for practice. Other resources are online at www.collegeboard.com/psat. After the test, all students will receive
free online access to My College Quickstart, which is a personalized college
planning kit based on their test results. Results come usually in late December.
How can I get my student signed up for the PSAT? As parents, you
will receive no other PSAT notifications.
Therefore, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to
call me prior to September 20th if you would like your student to
take this examination. High School students are being reminded via posters and
announcements. I have a limited space, and it is first-come-first-serve,
according to those who pay first. Call me at 979-335-7519 X 134 or email me at ruthellen.sharp@ebisd.org, or have
your student come by my office with money. Thanks!
Sincerely,
Ruth Ellen Sharp
