Eight East Bernard FFA members competed in the 5th Annual Shoppa's Tractor Tech Challenge at the Wharton County Fairgrounds on Saturday, December 9th. There were 27 teams competing from all over the state.
The team of Jonah Korenek, Dalton Schmidt, and Joseph Vacek placed 2nd overall. Jonah Korenek was the 2nd pace individual earning him a $100 gift card to Academy.The team of Zach Vacek, Marshall Mahalitc, and Jake Nethery placed 11th overall. Jace Talas and Seth Horelica competed as individuals.
The Tractor Technician contest consists of a 100 question true/false test on various tractor systems (electrical, hydraulics, cooling, and engines), evaluation of 20 tractor components, and a 30 minute trouble shooting section where the students are to complete their pre-operational checks and then locate and correctly solve five deliberately placed malfunctions and then a test drive of the tractor.
