EBHS Girls Cross Country State Meet Results
The East Bernard Girls Cross Country Team and Bo Badger as an individual qualifier, competed in the State CC Meet this past Saturday in RoundRock at Old Settler's Park. In the Boys Race, Bo finished 95th overall out of 148 runners with a time of 18:12. He improved upon his time from last year's race at the State Meet to complete his CC season. Congratulations to Bo. In the Girls race, there were 16 teams competing for the State Championship. The East Bernard girls CC team had competed in 5 Invitational Meets in which they had earned the team title. They were the District Champions for the 10th year in a row, and they won the Regional Championship for the 5th year in a Row. Entering the State meet, the Girls had won every meet they had raced in. As the Defending Back to Back State Champions, the pressure to repeat was there as the other teams were looking to take the top spot from the girls. This year's state race was won by the team that raced closest together just like last year's race, as East Bernard did not have any individuals in the top 15 places. The girls finished with a 19 second split between the first East Bernard finisher and the 5th team finisher to help the East Bernard girls claim the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP! East Bernard won the state title with 79 points, followed by Tulia with 125 points for the silver spot and Franklin with 162 points for the third place podium finish. Individually, Kensi Muzik was the first East Bernard harrier to cross the finish line in 26th place with a time of 12:31, followed by Caitlyn Fuechec close behind for 28th place with a time of 12:32, Jillian Hlavinka 37th with a time of 12:41, Brooke Petrenella 39th with a time of 12:43, and Aracely Acevedo 50th with a time of 12:51 to complete the team scoring. Jessica Rabius finished closed behind Aracely in 52nd place with a time of 12:52, and Madison Crist finished 140th with a time of 14:39. The alternates for the state team who competed during the regular season and had a positive impact and contributed to helping the girls continue to improve and earn the state title were Gracelyn Martinez, Logan Goudeau, and Julia Janczak. The East Bernard Girls Cross Country team finished as BACK TO BACK TO BACK State Champions! The girls had a short season due to Hurricane Harvey and the weather, but were competitive and tough throughout the season with someone different stepping up in each race when needed to help the team win. These girls represented East Bernard in championship fashion throughout the season. I want to also recognize three seniors from this years team: Jillian Hlavinka, Kensi Muzik, and Jessica Rabius....these three girls were the core members of the CC team for 4 years helping to earn 4 Regional Championships, a State Runner-Up finish in 2014, and State Championships in 2015, 2016, and 2017. All the girls will tell you that the TEAM racing together, close together, was instrumental to their success. CONGRATULATIONS to the CC runners and thank you all for your support and encouragement throughout the season. Not only do we have a gold medal winning team, but we have a gold medal School district and community!
