EBFFA Members Bring Home $24,000 in Scholarships

East Bernard FFA attended the Fort Worth Stock Show this weekend to compete in the Breeding Beef Heifer show.  While there, 4 members competed in the Heifer Superintendent's Beef Challenge and are bringing home $24,000 in scholarships.

Braden Janecek, Brent Vacek, Shawna Lackey and Tanner Schmidt started the challenge with 63 other competitors.  After taking a 50 question test over beef knowledge, the field was narrowed to the top 16.  All 4 EBFFA members made the finals, where they had to give a sales talk about their breed.   After the scores were tallied, the top 10 would receive scholarships.  Three of the four EB FFA members made it into the top 10.

Brent Vacek placed 7th overall and received a $6,000 scholarship.
Shawna Lackey placed 6th overall and received an $8,000 scholarship.
Tanner Schmidt placed 3rd overall and received a $10,000 scholarship.

After the awards ceremony, EB FFA was interviewed by the Fort Worth Star Telegram to have an article written about them.  They were so impressed that East Bernard had 3 of the top 10 prizes.  We hope to see an article in the next day or two.  Congratulations to Braden, Brent, Shawna and Tanner for representing EB FFA.
