A Letter From the EBISD School Board Regarding the November 4th "Plan B" Bond Election
Dear East Bernard Community Members,
As you know, Tuesday, November 4th
is Election Day. With an East Bernard ISD bond on the ballot, we want to take
this opportunity to share information about that bond proposal.
After the May 2014 bond did not
pass, the East Bernard ISD Board of Trustees engaged with the community over
the summer months in order to understand why that bond measure failed.
We heard the following three issues:
- The $25 million dollar price tag was too much money.
- The community likes the 1939 main high school building.
- The community wants Memorial Stadium to stay where it is.
In response, the board crafted a
"Plan B” bond proposal which is now on the November ballot. The new bond plan
does the following:
- Drops the bond price by $7 million dollars, but allows for construction of a new band hall and UIL performing stage in the cafeteria. This plan also provides for a new Ag shop and career classrooms.
- Preserves the 1939 high school building as it is, and moves the administrative offices into the main building.
- Keeps Memorial Stadium where it stands. Instead, the new high school will be constructed on the property next to the current administration building.
The November 2014 bond seeks to
maximize current low interest rates and construction costs, while bringing our
school facilities into the 21st century. The average homeowner, under the
age of 65, can expect a $296 per year tax increase, while those with the over
65 homestead exemption will not see a tax rate change.
As the EBISD Board, we will continue
to provide you with factual information so that you may make an informed
decision when you go into the voting booth on November 4, 2014. More information is available at www.ebisd.org by clicking on “EBISD Bond Information.”
Thank you,
EBISD School Board

EBHS Band Contest Results
So, the High School Band had a less than par performance this weekend. We came out of contest with an overall 3rd division which in layman's term stands for an average performance. 2nd division is exceeds and 1st division is superior and is required to advance to state next year.
Unfortunately we have one 7 minute performance to impress three judges whose scores are averaged. We had several individual and group errors some of which had never happened before as we received 2nd division ratings at our contests leading up to the UIL performance. The final judge scoring breakdown was a 3,3,2.
We are pushing forward and learning from our mistakes to continue to strive for the highest. We will be meeting and exceeding that goal by concert and sightreading contest in April as well as auditioning our best for region band on Saturday December 6th.
We would like to say thank you to everyone for their continued support throughout the year. Go Brahmas!

Town Hall Meeting for Discussion of the November 4, 2014 Bond Proposition

Agenda:
Discussion of the November 4, 2014 Bond Proposition
EBISD Statement on the smartphone app Yik Yak
Yesterday EBISD received information about a new social media app App "Yik Yak." After looking into the app, EBISD has come to these conclusions:
· Yes, Yik Yak, will be banned from use during school hours, and will be blocked on the EBISD networks.
· We have requested a "Geo Fence" from the makers of the program. This will block users of the app from making posts in a certain area around the school, even if they are on their cellphones data connections. This will not stop them from posting outside of school
EBISD would like to ask parents to talk to their children about cyberbulling, and keep an eye out for the app on their child's phone, as this App has been used as a platform for cyberbullying. Once the Geo Fence is in place at EBISD, the app will be useless on the EBISD campuses, even on the phones data connection.
EBISD would like to remind everyone that EBISD policies state that cell phones can be used in the classroom in support of learning, and that this kind of social media usage is still against our policies. If you catch a student not following the rules of the BYOD/AUP policies, then the phone will be taken up by the campus principal.
If you have any questions regarding EBISD policies regarding cell phone usage, please contact EBISD.
Here is a link to the Today Show feature on the app for a bit of background on the app: http://goo.gl/cnX8p4
