Brahmarette Basketball

The Varsity Brahmarettes went to Hitchcock last night and came away with a 50-22 victory.  Scoring for the Brahmarettes were Kaneesha Smith - 17; Angelica Lopez - 6; Brooke Boettcher - 5; Amanda Boettcher - 5; Rachel Polak - 4; Brandy Babin -4; Megan Kramr - 3; Aliska Schmidt - 2; Madison Francis- 2; Rebecca Rabius - 2.  The Brahmarettes are now 5-5 in district play and are sitting in 3rd place.  The next game will be at home Friday Jan. 31 against Brazos.  It will also be Senior night.  The JV starts at 5 with the Varsity to follow.

BAND FUNDRAISER

 Monday, February 3  is the final day to turn in coke order forms from all band students. If you would like to place an order, please contact a band member or Kenny Peters at kenny.peters@ebisd.org. Attached is the list and pricing of the cases. Much cheaper than the coke machines. Cases of 24 cokes are $20.00. This includes Minute Maid drinks, Dasani water, and Fuze tea.

Brahma Basketball

The Brahmas Boys basketball team played in an overtime thriller Wednesday in Hitchcock. The Brahmas were able to grind out a 57-55 win over the favored home team. Down 50-55 the Brahmas went on a 7-0 run in the last minute that included a last second lob pass and tip-in for the go ahead and winning basket.
The Brahmas next game will be Friday at home vs their visiting rival Brazos Cougars.

JH Boys Game Reschedule

Due to rescheduling of the Varsity basketball games, the 7th and 8th grade Maroon and white game scheduled for today has been moved to tomorrow, Wednesday, January 29. Just wanted to let everyone know, thanks and have a great day.

JH Basketball vs Rice

The 7th grade boys basketball team lost a physical game against Rice on Monday night. The final score ended up 29-15, scoring for the Brahmas was Hunter Goudeau (7), Zach Vacek (2), Kyler Marek (2), Destin Schuler (2), and Christian Alcalar (2). The Brahmas will be back in action on Saturday at the Rice tournament. The Brahmas first game is at 9:50 against Schulenburg.

HITCHCOCK BASKETBALL GAME CHANGE

Due to the possible inclement weather the games with Hitchcock scheduled for this Tuesday have been moved to Wednesday 1/29/14.

The Girls Varsity will play at 4:30 and the Varsity Boys will follow.  Approximately at 6:00.  All JV games are cancelled.

BRAHMARETTES VS. BOLING

The Varsity Brahmarettes lost a tough district game to Boling last Friday 42-32.  Scoring for the Brahmarettes were Angelica Lopez 11; Kaneesha Smith 8; Aliska Schmidt 6; Brooke Boettcher 4; Courtney Clipson 2; Rachel Polak 1.  The Brahmarettes travel to Hitchcock Tuesday Jan 28 for their next district game.  There is no JV game tomorrow the Varsity Brahmarettes will start at approximately 6:15.  

JV Brahmarette Basketball

The JV girls kept their winning streak alive on Friday night by defeating Boling.  The Brahmarettes took a 32-17 lead at halftime. The defense controlled the second half by allowing Boling to score 4 pts., one basket and 2 free throws. The final score was 52-21. Scoring for the Brhamarettes were: Kristen Morse-11pts., Hallye Mica-10 pts., Bailey Hlavinka-7 pts., Angie Cruz and Cheyenne Novicke-6 pts. each, Bailey Jankowski-5 pts., Brooke Polak-3 pts., Malynn Plunkett and Lindsey Matej-2 pts. each.  The team has an overall record of 16-2 and a District record of 8-0.  The girls will host Brazos on Friday and travel to Rice next Tuesday for their final two games of the season.

Band Fundraiser

Today begins our Band Spring Fundraiser. We are selling coke products at discounted prices by the case for this week only. The students are receiving the fundraiser form today in their classes, however it is also attached to this email just in case it doesn't make it home the first day and also if you need more copies. The kids can always come by the band hall and get more copies as well.

Order forms are due by Monday 2/3/14 with collected payment made out to EB Band #20

All proceeds go toward the bands. Please help us raise funds for all things band related and to help offset the end of year trip costs.

JH BASKETBALL VS BRAZOS

The 7th Grade A and B team both defeated the Brazos Cougars on Thursday night the B team won by a final score of 16-9. Scoring for the Brahmas was Zachary Cheatham (6), Mason Vasut (4), Patrick Hlavinka (4), and Dalton Schmidt (2). Leading the Brahmas defensively was AJ Lazo, Alex Lopez, Sammy Simms, Taylor Buxkemper, and Austin Draper. The B team will be back in action on Tuesday January 28th, at 4:00 for the Maroon and White game.

The A team won by a final of 55-18. On a cold, rainy night outside, the Brahmas were on fire on the court. Scoring for the Brahmas was Christian Alcalar (19), Kyler Marek (10), Hunter Goudeau (10), Destin Schuler (6), Grady Prazak (6), and Isaac Munoz (4). Leading the charge defensively was Joe Petrenella, Justin Bosse, Zach Vacek, and Joey Stearman. The A team will be back in action on Monday January 27th at Rice Consolidated starting at 5:00.

Brahma Basketball vs. Boling

The Brahmas won Fridays home contest vs the Boling Bulldogs 87-43. The Brahmas played good defense that led to several scoring opportunities. The Brahmas forced the Bulldogs into 32 turnovers.

The JV boys overcame a slow start Friday night to earn a hard-fought victory over Boling 49-36.

BLOOD DRIVE

What an outstanding turnout! East Bernard Student Council held their second Blood Drive for the 2013-2014 school year on January 22, 2014.  Students, teachers, and members of the community showed up to donate 68 components. For every 1 unit collected, 3 people can be saved.

The third and final Blood Drive for the year will be held on April 16, 2014.

Many thanks to everyone who showed up to be a hero!

Speech & Drama News

Last Saturday, five EB students went to compete at El Campo HS's Invitational Speech and Drama tournament.  Courtney Gomez, Rebecca Schulte, Sarah Sims, Drew Wilson, and Keaton McDonald (8th grade) all advanced to the semifinals in one or more of their events.  Out of over 25 schools, the Group Improv team of Schulte, Sims, Wilson, and McDonald brought home a 3rd place trophy and the Reader's Theater team of Sims, McDonald, and Gomez also brought home a 3rd place trophy!  The competative squad is really gaining momentum!  Congratulations!

JV Girls Basketball vs. Danbury

The JV Girls Basketball team defeated Danbury Friday night by a score of 29-16. The Brahmarettes were down 4-9 at the half.  They scored 25 second half points to defeat the Panthers and stay undefeated in District play. Angie Cruz led the way defensively. Scoring for the team were the following girls: Kristen Morse-7 pts., Rebecca Rabius-6 pts., Hallye Mica and Bailey Hlavinka-4 pts. each, Angie Cruz and Malynn Plunkett-3 pts. each, and Linsdsey Matej with a bucket.


The girls have an overall record of 14-2 and 7-0 in District. They will resume play at home on Friday against Boling.

This years night at Rodeo Houston will be Friday March 21. Easton Corbin will be the entertainer. I will be sell tickets for 25.00 each. The seats will be in the 100 section. BAND FUNDRAISER


From Monday January 27th through Friday January 31st the East Bernard Band will be selling coke products for their Spring Fundraiser. Buyers will be able to purchase full pallets of cokes or coke products. Proceeds help the band attend end of the year competitions and provide for instrument repairs and purchases.

UIL REGION BAND

We would like to congratulate the students who won a spot and performed with the UIL Region 13 Region Bands on January 18th. They competed against 400 other students in the area to gain a spot in one of only two performing bands. From left to right we have head director Mr. Kenny Peters, senior Ashly Heimdal, sophomore Mariah Suarez, junior Elizabeth Blackert, sophomore Katelynn Leonards, and assistant director Ms. Sarah Reimund.




Brahmarettes vs. Danbury

The Varsity Brahmarettes lost a tough road game Friday night in Danbury  46-38.  Scoring for the Brahmarettes were Brooke Boettcher - 12; Angelica Lopez 10; Rachel Polak - 7; Kaneesha Smith - 3; Amanda Boettcher - 2; Kelly Kubena - 2; Amber Matej - 2; Courtney Clipson - 2. 

The Brahmarettes have thier next game coming up Friday at home against Boling at 6:15.

7th Grade wins Basketball Tournament

Over the weekend, the 7th grade boys B team competed in the Brazos basketball tournament. The Brahmas beat Columbus 18-11, and Van Vleck 28-23 to take home the tournament Championship. Scorers over the weekend included; Patrick Hlavinka (19), AJ Lazo(11),  Alex Lopez (5), Sammy Simms (4), Zachary Cheatham (4), Mason Vasut (2), Taylor Buxkemper (1). Defensive standouts included Austin Draper, and Dalton Schmidt. Both the A and B teams will be back in action Thursday, January 23, at home against Brazos.

Brahma Basketball

All who made the long drive to Danbury Friday night got their monies worth as your Brahmas improved to 6-0 in district with a 43-40 win over the host Panthers. The Brahmas stingy defense was a major key to the victory. The Varsity Boys would like to thank the fans for going on the road and showing your support.

FFA Tractor Technician Team goes to State!

The EB FFA Tractor Technician team is advancing to the State contest after placing 1st at the Area 3 FFA contest today at Sam Houston State University.  Team members Jonathan Hlavinka, Barrett Janecek and Zach Riley took a test over tractor mechanics, identified tractor components and diagnosed and fixed problems on a tractor to clench the win.  Good Luck at State!

Brahmarette Basketball

The Varsity Brahmarettes lost a tough district game last night to Van Vleck 38-28.  Scoring for the Brahmarettes were Aliska Schmidt - 10; Rachel Polak - 5; Brooke Boettcher - 4; Brandy Babin - 3; Amanda Boettcher - 2; Kelly Kubena - 2; Angelica Lopez - 2.  The Brahmarettes are 4-3 in district and are sitting in 3rd place at the moment.  Their next game will be at Danbury Friday night at 6:15.

The JV Girls played 2 district games and defeated Rice and Van Vleck. The Brahmarettes defeated Rice 44-34 on Jan. 10th at home. Leading the way was Kristen Morse with 10 pts.  Hallye Mica scored 7 pts., Rebecca Rabius-6pts., A.J. Navarro and Angie Cruz with 5 pts., each, and Malynn Plunkett and Bailey Hlavinka with 4 pts. each.  Angie Cruz and Hallye Mica led the way defensively for the Brahmarettes.


Against the Van Vleck Leopards the girls jumped out to a 42-1 halftime lead and won 64-4.  Cheyenne Novicke and Malynn Plunkett had the hot hand for the Brahmarettes with 16 pts. and 15 pts. each.  Also scoring were Hallye Mica-8 pts. Rebecca Rabius-6pts., Kristen Morse and Bailey Hlavinka-5pts., Angie Cruz-4pts.,  and Hadley Carr and Brooke Polak-2 pts. each. The girls have an overall record of 13-2 and a District record of 6-0. The girls travel to Danbury on Friday

Brahma Basketball

The Varsity Brahmas Basketball team  improved their district record to 5-0 in with a 71-35 win over the visiting Leopards of Van Vleck.  We Brahmas were able to force the visiting Leopards into 21 first half turnovers which sealed the deal by half.  Offensively the Brahmas distributed the ball well having 4 players in double digits.  
  
The JV Boys fell to Van Vleck Tuesday night 45-39.  The boys gave maximum effort but came up just short.

The Brahmas look to close out the first round of district at Danbury Friday night. 

In a battle of the Brahmas, our freshman basketball team galloped out to lay claim to the pasture by defeating Halletsville 32-21.  We were able to dominate on the offensive side of the ball with great effort and fundamentals . Defensively, there was an insatiable desire to create turnovers and grab rebounds.  The freshman basketball team is currently on a 2 game win streak. They look to stretch the streak to 3 this Friday night in Needville.

Brahmatettes Team up against cancer

The Brahmarettes will be 'Teaming Up Against Cancer' once again with this season dedicated to playing for the fight against Neuroblastoma in memory of Jonathan David Kramr who lost his battle with it at a young age. Jonathan was the brother of our varsity player Megan Kramr and son of Ricky & Rhonda Kramr.

To support this fight the BRAHMARETTES vs NEUROBLASTOMA game night will be held in conjunction with tthe EB vs Brazos game on January 31, 2014.  There will be contests & drawings held between varsity games and at halftimes beginning after the 6:15 tipoff of the varsity girls game.  This is a great way to unify our kids in something bigger than just playing a ball game.

If you are interested in donating items (or know anyone who is), please let me know.
Tickets will be sold in the foyer of our gym the night of the game for contests/drawings. They will be 6 tickets for $5 or 15 tickets for $10.

GALA

The EB Athletic Booster Club Gala is this Saturday, January 18th. I hope that you will join us for the 6:00 Social Hour, 7:00 Steak dinner, followed by a live auction, silent auction, and dance.

The last day to purchase the tickets is Wednesday. Please let me know if you need tickets to this " FUNdraiser".  The money raised helps support the many scholarships that are given to our senior athletes.

Freshman Game Change (1/17/14)

Danbury is only going to have two boys teams Friday so the Freshmen will be traveling to Needville Friday January 17th and playing at 5:00. 

BRAHMA SPEECH AND DRAMA RESULTS

This past Saturday the Brahma Speech and Drama club took seven students to West Columbia HS to compete in an invitational Speech, Debate, and Drama tournament.  Sarah Berrett competed in Extemporaneous Speaking and Novice Prose.  She advanced to the semi-finals in Extemp.  Sarah Sims competed in Novice Prose and Storytelling, and placed 3rd in the Storytelling semi-finals.  Russell Zahradnik competed in Storytelling, Group Improv, and Novice Prose and placed 4th in Novice Prose overall.  The Group Improv team of Rebecca Schulte, Faith Jenkins, Drew Wison, Keaton McDonald (8th grade) and Russell Zahradnik competed in the finals round!  Congratulations to all who participated!  They did very well considering it was the first tournament for all!

Ashley Dusek makes All-Star Team

Congratulations to Ashley Dusek for being selected as an All-Star for the Texas Girls Coaches Association.  She is 1 of 24 girls in 1A, 2A, and 3A to be selected.  She will compete in the All-Star match in Arlington on July 10th.  If you see her around, please congratulate her.

Freshmen Boys Game Change

The Freshmen Boys Basketball Team will no longer be playing Hempstead on Tuesday January 21st.  They will be traveling to Palacios for a 6:00 game.  We will keep everyone posted on any changes to the schedule as they occur.

The Varsity Brahmarettes won a big district game Friday night defeating Rice 33-29 in overtime.  Scoring for the Brahmarettes were Kelly Kubena - 7; Angleica Lopez -7; Megan Kramr - 6; Brooke Boettcher - 6; Madison Francis - 2; Courtney Clipson - 2; Brandy Babin - 2.  

The Brahmarettes improved to 4-2 in district and will host Van Vleck Tuesday Jan 14th in a big district matchup.  The JV starts at 5 with the Varisty to follow.

JH TOURNAMENT RESULTS

Over the weekend East Bernard Junior High hosted their annual Junior High Basketball Tournament. The 7th grade A team came away with two wins, and the tournament championship. The first game featured the East Bernard Brahmas vs. Ganado. The Brahmas used relentless defense to win that game by a final score of 61-10. Scoring for the Brahmas was Destin Schuler (13), Christian Alcalar (10), Kyler Marek (8), Justin Bosse (6), Joey Stearman (6), Hunter Goudeau (6), Joe Petrenella (4), Grady Prazak (4), Zach Vacek (2), and Isaac Munoz (2). 


The Championship game featured the East Bernard Brahmas vs. Industrial, with the Brahmas coming out on top 35-34. Scoring for the Brahmas was Christian Alcalar (11), Isaac Munoz (8), Hunter Goudeau (7), Destin Schuler (3), Kyler Marek (2), Grady Prazak (2), and Joey Stearman (2).  Congratulations goes out to these boys for winning the tournament. The 7th grade A and B teams will be back in action tonight in Hitchcock.

Brahma Basketball

The Varsity Basketball team improved their district record to 4-0 Friday night with a dominating 83-7 victory over the visiting Raiders.  The Brahmas used a suffocating defense and good shooting to jump out to a 56-3 halftime lead.  The win was a total team effort with everyone contributing both offensively and defensively.

The JV boys are now 4-0 in district after beating Rice Consolidated 78-11 Friday night.  The 78 points was a season high for the team.

JH Basketball Results

Below are the results from last nights contest featuring East Bernard against Boling. The Brahmas played extremely hard and the results reflect that.

The 7th grade boys B team continued their winning ways on Thursday night against Boling. The boys won with a dominating score of 28-3. Scoring for the Brahmas was Patrick Hlavinka (10), Mason Vasut (6), Zachary Cheatham (5), AJ Lazo (3), Taylor Buxkemper (2), and Alex Lopez (2). Defensive standouts included Austin Draper, Dalton Schmidt, and Sammy Simms. The B team’s record now stands at 4-1 on the season. They will be back in action Monday, January 13th.

The 7th grade A team also had a dominant performance against Boling, winning 49-14. The Brahmas took care of business using hard, physical defense to lead to scoring opportunities. Scoring for the Brahmas was Hunter Goudeau (14), Christian Alcalar (12), Isaac Munoz (8), Destin Schuler (5), Kyler Marek (3), Justin Bosse (3), Joey Stearman (2), and Grady Prazak (2). Defensive Standouts included; Joe Petrenella, and Zach Vacek. The A team’s record now stands at 4-2 on the season.

East Bernard will host the annual Jr. High Basketball tournament on Saturday, January 11, 2014.  . First Game starts at 9:00 a.m. featuring East Bernard vs. Ganado.

JV Girls Basketball

During the Christmas break the JV girls defeated Shiner 36-24. Leading the way for the Brahmarettes was Bailey Hlavinka-9pts. and Kristen Morse-8 pts. Also contributing for the Brahmarettes were as follows: McKenzie Wilkerson-5pts., Hallye Mica & Hadley Carr-4pts. each, and Malynn Plunkett, A.J.Navarro, and Lindsey Matej with a bucket each.

Tuesday night the girls travelled to Wallis to take on the Courgarettes in a District Contest. They defeated Brazos 34-14. Kristen Morse was in double digits with 11 pts., while Hallye Mica had 5 pts., Rebecca Rabius-4pts., Bailey Hlavinka-3 pts., and Malynn Plunkett, Hadley Carr, Bailey Jankowski, A.J. Navarro and Lindsey Matej all had 2 pts. each.

The girls have an overall record of 11-2 and District record of 4-0.

The Raiders of Rice will travel to East Bernard on Friday for the last round of district play.

Brahmarette Basketball

The Varsity Brahmarettes fell to 3-2 in district last night losing to Brazos 45-37.  Scoring for the Brahmarettes were Amanda Boettcher - 9; Kelly Kubena - 9; Courtney Clipson - 6; Brandy Babin - 5; Rachel Polak - 4; Megan Kramr - 2; Brooke Boettcher - 2.  The Brahmarettes next game will Friday at home vs Rice Consolidated.  JV starts at 5 with Varsity to follow. 

Brahma Basketball

The Brahmas Varsity team improved their district record to 3-0 Tuesday night with a 64-19 victory over rival Brazos.  The Brahmas used hard nose defense to set the tone in the first half and never looked back.  The Brahmas next game is Friday night at home vs. Rice Consolidated.


The JV boys are now 3-0 in district after a dominating performance against Brazos, winning 55-13.

Brahmarette Basketball

The Varsity Brahmarettes played 3 games over the Christmas holidays.  They defeated Hallettsville Sacred Heart and Logos Prep and came up short against Shiner. 
 
The Brahmarettes resume District play Jan 7th at Brazos.  The JV will start at 5 with the Varsity to follow.

The Brahmarette Freshmen basketball game scheduled for Jan 7th at home vs Columbus has been cancelled.

Brahma Basketball

The Brahmas wrapped up their holiday schedule with a 61-44 victory over Logos Prep Academy out of Suglarland.  The Brahmas used a strong first half to secure the victory over the visiting Lions.  The Brahmas are looking forward to district play continuing Tuesday in Brazos.

The Freshmen game vs. Hempstead scheduled for tomorrow (1/3) is cancelled due to Hempstead not having enough players showing up over the break.
