BRAHMA BASEBALL--GOTTA LOVE IT!!

The East Bernard Brahmas are heading to the state tournament !!!

The Brahmas traveled to San Marcos to take on the Badgers from Bishop this past Saturday to try and keep their hopes of making it to the state tournament and a chance to play for a state title.  The Brahmas came into Saturday's game down 0-1 in the best of three series following their 5-4 loss on Thursday night.

GAME 1: Saturday: May 31, 2014
Lead off batter Grant Aschenbeck started it off with opposite field double and was followed by a Derrick Rucka single to put the good guys up 1-0. The Badgers scored two in the third inning to go up 2-1. The Brahmas would answer back in the top of the 4th inning scoring 3 runs on base hits by Derrick Rucka, Cole Koeppen, Nathan Hlavinka, and Garrett Polak. The Brahmas extended the lead in the top of the 6th when Justin Mcguire led off with line shot double down the 3rd base line. Two batters later, Nathan Hlavinka hit a double to the left center field wall. Garrett Polak drove in his third run of the game on a base hit to left field to make the final score 6-3.
Getting the win for game 1 was Tyler Sulak. Tyler improved his season record to 6-0

GAME 2:  Saturday:  May 31, 2014
Game two started off much like game 1 with the Brahmas scoring in the top of the first on a double by Justin Mcguire and then followed up by single from Cole Koeppen. The good guys scored again in the top of the 3rd inning when Mcguire stretched a single into a double and then Koeppen hit a slow roller between first and second base and beat it out while Mcguire rounded third base  and scored easitly on the infield hit.  Two more runs scored in the 5th inning on three consecutive base hits  by Koeppen, Nathan Hlavinka, and Caemen Mayfield to put the game out of reach

The 5-1 score was all Koeppen needed to close out the game and send the East Bernard Brahmas to State Tournament.  Koeppen got 7 strikeouts and only gave up 1 walk in 7 innings.

Congratulations to these Brahma boys.  They battled hard and won twice on Saturday and showed the pride and strong character of our East Bernard Community.
