High School Testing and Summer School Blitz

As you may know, our standardized testing put into place last year has been in questioned by many. As of Monday, June 10,2013, Governor Rick Perry signed a new law into effect that will eliminate some of these tests.

Before this happened, our high school students were forced to take a total of 15 End of Course exams, more rigorous than the outgoing TAKS exams. That number has been lowered to 5.

The tests still in place are English I, II, Algebra I, and Biology for this year. The law will also eliminate the cumulative concept of scoring as well as semester averages comprised of 15% being the end of course score.

Needless to say, there are many things that are changing in our testing.

However, if your child has not passed one of the above-listed high school courses remaining on the testing program, please plan to have him/her at the assigned Summer School Blitzes as well as the retest days. If you have questions, please call Ruth Ellen Sharp at (979) 335-7519 extension 134.
TAKS/EOC Summer Retest Schedule:

If your child has not passed English I and/or English II (Reading and/or Writing), Algebra I, and/or Biology, TAKS English, Math, Science, and/or Social Studies, test dates are as follows:

EOC English I Writing, TAKS English: Monday, July 8
EOC English I Reading, TAKS Math: Tuesday, July 9
EOC English II Writing, TAKS Science: Wednesday, July 10
EOC English II Reading, TAKS Social Studies: Thursday, July 11
EOC Algebra I: Friday, July 12
EOC Biology: Monday, July 15

Please have your student in the EBHS front foyer by 7:45 a.m. on his/her test day(s).  No drinks or snacks will be served.  Your child will be ready for pick up around 12:30, but may leave as his/her test is finished.  No transportation will be provided by EBISD.  For questions, please call Ruth Ellen Sharp at 979-335-7519 X 134.
