HB5 NEWS

As you may know, our standardized testing put into place last year has been in questioned by many. As of Monday, June 10,2 013, Governor Rick Perry signed a new law into effect that will eliminate some of these tests.

Before this happened, our high school students were forced to take a total of 15 End of Course exams, more rigorous than the outgoing TAKS exams. That number has been lowered to 5.

The tests still in place are English I, II (reading and writing combined), Algebra I, biology, and World History. The law will also eliminate the cumulative concept of scoring as well as semester averages comprised of 15% being the end of course score.

Needless to say, there are many things that are changing in our testing. However, if your child has  not passed one of the above-listed high school courses remaining on the testing program, please plan to have him/her at the assigned Summer School Blitzes as well as the retest days. If you have questions, please call Ruth Ellen Sharp at (979) 335-7519  extension 134.
