Running for a Cause

I am running an ultra-marathon with Kevin Kline representing Snowdrop as part of Worth the Hurt....a program that helps to raise money for worthy causes. In representing SNOWDROP, i have the responsibility to raise $1000.00 as my part in supporting the SNOWDROP FOUNDATION. Any donations you would like to make to help Snowdrop would be awesome. If you know Kevin Kline, you know what all he has done to help in the fight against Pediatric cancer which is why SNOWDROP was founded. If you don't know who Kevin Kline is, please go to www.snowdropfoundation.org, and you will be humbled and amazed.....I have been fortunate to have been apart of Kevin's last 3 ultra events he has done to help raise awareness for pediatric cancer....STRIDES ACROSS TEXAS in 2009-2010, Kevin's 24 hour treadmill run 2010-2011, and 100K a day Run Cancer Away 2011-2012. This summer we plan to run the San Francisco Marathon TWICE.......52.4 miles to help raise money for SNOWDROP. If you have any questions, please message me!!I would be glad to answer any questions you might have. Below is the link to go to my fundraising page.

Computer and Electronics Recycling

On Saturday May 19th the Green Team will hold its second annual computer and electronics recycling event. This year should be even bigger and better.

When? Saturday, May 19, 9am-1pm
Where? EB New Gym parking lot
What? Computers, monitors, TVs, small electronics, stereos, radios, VCRs, DVD players, small batteries, VCR tapes, DVDs, etc.

Why do we do this? Because electronics should not be put into landfills. Many contain toxic materials that are harmful and contaminate the land and groundwater. All these items are either refurbished to be used again or are completely recycled here in the US. We will take everything collected to Technocycle in Houston, an amazing company with a very good track record (http://technocycle.com).

Note that your computer hard drives are removed and shredded to guarantee your privacy and security.

This is a fund raiser for the Green Team and the money raised will be used for environmental projects in East Bernard and at the school. We appreciate your cooperation!

Your costs:
TVs - $20
Computer monitors - $10
Computers, including mice, cables, keyboards, speakers - $5
Other small electronics (VCRs, stereos, DVD players, etc.) - $5
Very small electronics (ipods, batteries, tapes, etc.) - donation

Notice: we cannot take household appliances such as vacuums, air conditioners, refrigerators, etc., nor light bulbs.

If you have any other questions please contact me. Pass this information on to anyone you think might could use it. Thanks! See you on May 19!

STAAR Parent Notification

As you know, the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) is the new state assessment program that has replaced the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test that has been in place since 2003. The new test also includes twelve End of Course (EOC) exams in high school.

The STAAR assessment is designed to be more difficult than the TAKS. The difficulty level will be increased by having more questions, measuring a higher level of thinking in relation to content skills, having more items that require students’ writing in responses rather than selecting from multiple choices, focusing deeply on content taught during the current year rather than a culmination of information from multiple years, and measuring readiness for college and career success.
