Computer Night Offered

If you are a parent or student who needs help understanding the EBISD website, then the school can help. The Parent Involvement Committee and the technology department will hold a Computer Night on Monday, Jan. 10, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to give parents an opportunity to familiarize themselves with computer use, thus getting more involved in their student's success. A variety of different topics will be available for students and parents to choose from.
To help parents and students adapt to the new technology, the Parent Involvement Committee, along with the technology department at the school, has scheduled the second upcoming Computer Night to familiarize parents with computer use and the EBISD website.

In the past year East Bernard ISD has made several changes to adapt to a world becoming more dependent on computers and the Internet. The district uses various forms of technology and online access to update the community on events, sports scores, awards and general announcements such as school closures or playoff times and places. Access to these types of information will be helpful to both students and parents. Social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook, which offer a quick and easy opportunity for the schools to get the word out to parents and students, will also be illustrated. Along with e-mail and the district web site, these new forms of online communication give community members several options when seeking information about their child's school or sports activities.
Other changes include a revamped and more frequently updated website and more teaching tools available online to parents and students. Tasks such as finding documents including homework assignments, cafeteria menus and prices, upcoming athletic events, test information and school functions will be addressed. During Computer Night parents and students can also learn about computer safety, what to look for in virus protection and how to identify fake anti-virus software or phishing scams.
The Computer Night will consist of a Q&A session about navigating the website. Members of the technology department will be present to answer questions about the website and school computer policy. Personnel will also be on hand to teach other
computer concepts such as Word, Excel, creating tables, using email, etc Suggestions on how the website could be improved will also be welcomed. Parents are encouraged to attend, and those who do will have a chance to enter a drawing for a free laptop. Snacks and drinks will be served, and parents can accompany students into the library for more opportunities to take AR Tests. The National Honor Society will be offering a babysitting service in the Pre-K room for parents attending the event.
Two more Computer Nights will be held on Feb. 7 and April 12. The drawing for the laptop will be held on April 12, and parents may enter each time they attend Computer Nights.
