Students from around the state competed in September for the various Region Jazz Bands. Mitchell won 1st place in Region 13. After the auditions, the top scoring students submitted recordings for a chance to win a position in the All-State Jazz Band.
From hundreds of students statewide the final selections were narrowed down. In the electric bass category, only the top 15 bass players advanced to state. Mitchell was the only one selected for the All-State Jazz Band in this category!
Mitchell is the first student to make the All-State Jazz Band from East Bernard. He will practice with the jazz band at the TMEA Music Convention held in San Antonio February 9-12, and will perform at the San Antonio Convention Center on Saturday, February 12.
